During a routine training mission in the Scottish Highlands, a small squad of British soldiers find a wounded Special Forces captain and the bloody remains of his team.

The booklet features essays by Alison Peirse, Anya Stanley, Zoe Rose Smith, and Craig Ian Mann, as well as a collection of production stills, and interviews with Marshall and producer David E. Digitally there are no compression issues, the source is clean and bright, and that beautiful grain structure give a wonderful filmic presentation. On the other hand, the making-off features are wonderful (as you would expect from a Marshall film if we are being honest). There are new and old extras, on the UHD and in Dolby Vison, as well as a whole bunch of material in the form of a booklet and cards if you go for the limited edition set.

And after all, a werewolf is far more terrifying when its rampages involve bodies torn to pieces, especially when going up against trained soldiers with machine guns. Clarity/Detail: Dog Soldiers debuts in the US on 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray featuring a 4K restoration from the original camera negative by Second Sight Films – approved by director Neil Marshall and director of photography Sam McCurdy and presented in Dolby Vision.A Cottage in the Woods is an extended interview with Bowles, who gives a more detailed explanation about the design and construction of the sets for Dog Soldiers.

Neil Marshall’s ‘making of’ insight hits an hour or so, and I think there’s a mix of old and new interviews entwined into a single package. Factory has released Second Sight’s restoration of Dog Soldiers on UHD in North America, also as a two-disc set that includes a Region A-locked Blu-ray copy of the film.scratching their heads at that comment I'd refer you first to my original Dog Soldiers Blu-ray review, which explicitly gets into the provenance of that 1080 release from Shout! No shirtless underwear models lusting after teenage girls here, just a bunch of normal guys desperately trying to survive the night.

It’s filled with blood, gore, gallows humour and a plethora of nods, winks and references to other films ranging from Aliens to The Matrix. I'd say the special effects and the 'practical' effects werewolf costumes were incredibly advanced for their time and still hold up to this day. This is a proper old school horror that not only takes inspiration from other werewolf films, but borrows heavily from the setup and symbolism of slasher flicks as well. There isn’t much at all that you can fault in Dog Soldiers; it showed what Marshall could do with a limited budget despite having the wildest of scopes.
