There are other chapters that I didn't elaborate on in this review that includes helpful guidelines for decision making, explanation about induction, how to practice hypnobirthing during a cesarean birth, and even a complete packing list for a birth bag—information that is good to know for when it's needed. HYPNOBIRTHING will change your mindset towards birth, so that you'll be able navigate your birth - and any twists and turns - with confidence, armed with practical tools that ensure you feel calm and in control throughout. This book has some valuable information – breathing techniques, partner-assisted exercises, affirmations, and general birth education that can (hopefully) make for a positive birth experience. It's not dogmatic about birth needing to be 'natural', and the author says to be ready for changes to the plan, and that a C-section is just as positive as a vaginal birth if it feels positive.

Just as I would telling them to speak to my other half and not talk to me, who would surely just pass on what they're asking or saying anyway? Hypnobirthing was recommended to me by a close friend who gave birth last year and told me it had helped her tremendously.

Despite a 15 hour labour, I would describe my experience as positive thanks to my mindset throughout, which I definitely wouldn't have had without this book. I also find the various testimonies about birth experiences shared in this book very inspiring because each person birthed their babies in different circumstances and they all had a positive birth experience with the help of hypnobirthing. In this book, The Positive Birth Company’s founder Siobhan debunks common myths about hypnobirthing and explains why she believes it can make every type of birth a better experience - from a water birth at home to an unplanned caesarean in theatre. In the second chapter, Siobhan Miller begins to share the toolkit that includes: two breathing techniques, visualizations, light-touch massage, guided relaxations, positive affirmations, and the art of creating shortcuts to achieve relaxation. Reading the title, I thought this would be about hypnosis, but it's actually about breaking a cycle of fear and trying to create an environment where the mum-to-be can relax and allow her body to work its natural magic.

The tone and some of content felt a bit patronising - I never want to heat the BRAIN acronym ever again.Siobhan Miller, mother of three boys, is an experienced hypnobirthing coach and founder of The Positive Birth Company, which aims to empower women and their birth partners to create positive birth experiences. Really good information not just about hypnobirthing but also about how a pregnancy works, how your body and muskle work. The book is such an easy read with lots of useful information about all aspects of birth and I think it should be recommended to pregnant women by any midwife or even the NHS. I have so much more confidence and feel empowered and equipped to advocate for myself and baby after reading this book.
