This is perfection, everything is extremely well done from the narrative to the page design, after reading this you will definitely see some changes in your point of view when it comes to the discussions brought up by the author. But what he doesn't expect is an elevator ride filled with the past, and to face what he hasn't had to face until now.

But as he takes the elevator down, with a gun tucked in his pants, it stops on each floor and a ghost from Will's past enters, all victims of gun violence, but will that be enough to change his mind ? But on his way down in the elevator, he encounters the spirits of the people in his life who have passed away. Some readers may not like having to do the "work" but when the elevator opens and Shawn asks Will, "Are you coming? Yourself and Bob are much cherished in our booky world and I personally really appreciate everything that you do. The book received starred reviews from Booklist, [7] Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books, [8] Horn Book, [9] Kirkus, [5] Publishers Weekly, [10] and School Library Journal, [11] as well as positive reviews from Shelf Awareness.Perspective and Reality - In the book, Will is visited by ghosts from his past who hope to impart insight into Will's future before he makes his final decision. Unfortunately, the rules have been passed down from generation to generation, creating a deeply ingrained pattern of violence that seems impossible to escape. Told in short, powerful verse, the novel explores the tenacity of the cycle of violence, the pain of toxic masculinity, and the dangers of repressed grief. Bear in mind that the themes and language are strong, so this book is best for children aged 14 plus, although a savvy 12-year-old will also relish it. I had trouble visualizing the setting for some reason, the writing style in verse lacked something for me.

A graphic novel edition of the book, illustrated by Danica Novgorodoff, was published October 13, 2020.Par exemple si je prenais mon commentaire et que je le détachais en vers, ça donnerait pareil et ça n'a pas toujours grand intérêt. Books can help teenagers to process sad feelings, especially when they find it hard to talk to adults. It gave readers plenty of room to think and reflect on the novel as a whole, while still managing to remain a satisfying conclusion. The man is Buck, a man who used to be like a big brother to Shawn, the man who gave Shawn the gun Will now carries, and a man Will knows to be dead. You guys are such a force for good and I am a passionate supporter of Indie booksellers, so I'm so happy this worked out well (I'd love to know how many books were sold if you have it to hand - it felt like quite a lot!

Will knows his mission is probably going to leave him in the same state as his brother, but it’s all he’s equipped to do. We’ve suggested some books that can help those going through tough times, and which are also excellent reads for everyone.Street violence is common in their neighborhood, and many deaths are a result of "rules" which drive kill or be killed motives. My only issue is that I struggled with the plot of this book a bit because I'm not a fan of books that require the suspension of disbelief, and this straddled that line throughout its duration.

Reynolds' concise verses echo like shots against the white space of the page, their impact resounding. Will knows that if someone does not vindicate their loved one's death, they are considered disloyal, and betray the memory of their loved one.

The coolest thing about this book to me, and something I don't think I really noticed until I saw my favorite booktuber's review, is that this book doesn't try to be about right and wrong. This is one of those books where you can”t explain the premise to anyone you just have to live and breath it, my daughter recommended it as she is training to be an English teacher and this book is on the curriculum, I can fully understand why, such powerful imagery and thought provoking way to tell the story, amazing!
